Orlando, FL
Home to a little over 220,000 people, Orlando is one of the country's most well known tourist destinations. From the Walk Disney World Resort, to Sea World and the Universal Orlando Resort, the city is home to some of modern America's most iconic attractions. Just 106 feet above sea level, and featuring a humid, subtropical climate, the city undergoes just two season changes a year, making it the ideal destination for those wary of the colder winters that plague most of America.
Home to one of America's most rapidly growing Puerto Rican communities, Orland is home to many Latin flavoured restaurants and radio stations. Music plays a big part in the urban life of Orlando, with an active hip hop, metal and rock scene being found in the city. The Florida Breakbeat movement too finds its roots in Orlando.
Often called Hollywood East because of its many film studios, the Orlando area was until recently home to many studios, and is in close proximity to nearby Maitland where the Florida Film Festival is held.
The city also features an active theatre scene, with many community theatres such as the Orlando-UCF Shakespeare Festival, the Orlando Repertory Theatre and the Orlando Theatre Project being found in the area. In the spring, Darden Restaurants also traditionally sponsors a Festival of New Plays.
Of course, the city's key attractions are its amusement parks. The Walt Disney World Resort in particular is one of America's biggest tourist destinations. Featuring cartoon characters and events from some of Disney's most famous creations, Disney World is a must visit for any family. On the other hand, animal lovers will not want to miss a trip to SeaWorld Orlando, which, apart from featuring a plethora of marine animals, also has an amusement park.
While business travellers will certainly be able to have a productive time in Orlando, most will find it difficult to stay away from the many tourist attractions that the city has to offer. From Disney World, to the theatre and beyond, Orlando is one of those cities that make it hard to ignore your inner child.
