Los Angeles, CA
The largest city in California, and the second largest in the United States, Los Angeles houses 3.8 million people in 469 square miles of city space.
Founded in 1781 by a Spanish governor, it was a part of Mexico following its independence, before being purchased by the United States via treaty.
Home of Hollywood, and essentially the backbone of America's entertainment industry, it is the world leader in the production of movies, television content, recorded music, and video games.
If you're in LA for the first time, you're probably going to want to see Hollywood at some point. The home of American cinema, this district features a number of iconic landmarks, including the Hollywood Sign, the Kodak Theatre, the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Grauman's Chinese Theatre. With many of the film industry's biggest names living in and around LA, a stroll through Hollywood may also give you a chance to catch a glimpse of some of your favourite stars.
Film fanatics may also want to try and time their visit to coincide with the annual Los Angeles Film Festival, one of the most famous festivals of its kind.
Music, is of course, another pillar of LA. The city has long been a breeding ground for some of America's most influential musicians, including Mötley Crüe, Guns N' Roses, Slayer, more recently KoЯn and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The city was also home to many punk rock bands including X, Black Flag and Wasted Youth, and is at present one of the centres of African American music, cantered around rap scene personalities such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg.
Known for its mural art, Los Angeles is reputedly one of the most painted cities in the world, with thousands of murals adorning the walls of the city.
The beating heart of California, Los Angeles is entertainment central, making is difficult, if not impossible, to be bored during your stay there. From movies, to film, and beyond, the city offers a plethora of different attractions that will certainly satisfy even the most discerning of tourists.
