Denver, CO
The veritable centre of Colorado, Denver is placed just east of the Southern Rocky Mountains. Named the Mile-High City due to its official elevation being exactly one mile high above sea level, the city boasts a population of nearly six hundred thousand people, and is best known as a winter holiday destination. Founded in November 1858 by a group of gold prospectors, the city undergoes four distinct seasons, and its weather is influenced heavily by the Rocky Mountains nearby.
An garden city, Denver features many parks such as the City Park and Washington Park. Red Rocks, a park and amphitheatre known for its natural rock formations and superb acoustics, is also home to many concerts for this very reason. From camping and hiking in the summer, to skiing in the winter, the city and its surroundings are strongly connected to the great outdoors.
The visual and performing arts are also represented strongly in the city, with the Denver Art Museum being a great starting point for anyone interested in seeing what Denver has to offer in this regard. An important location for folk music, the city is also home to many well known folk artists like Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, and John Dever, who all lived and performed in Denver at various points in their life.
Beer is one of the city's other great attractions. Home to many local and national breweries, Denver's beer related history is long and active. While local restaurants often have on-site breweries, several larger manufacturers, such a Coors and the New Belgium Brewing Company offer tours of their plants. That's not all, however - the city also hosts the annual Great American Beer Festival each fall, a must see event for any lager fan.
A city that revolves around good weather, historic music, and great beer, Denver is a multi-sensory experience that you cannot risk missing. While business travellers will find the Denver downtown area more than satisfying for conferences and events, the tourist will love the skiing, and camping, both best washed down with a fine Denver brew.
