Dallas, TX
Home to over 1.2 million people, Dallas is the third largest city in the State of Texas, making it also the ninth largest in the United States. Founded in 1846, and formally incorporated as a city in 1856, the city's economy is based around the petroleum, telecommunications, banking, computer technology and transport industries.
Due to its strong industrial and financial centre, the city is also an important destination for business travellers. Home to many facilities made for conferences and corporate events, the Dallas Convention Centre in downtown Dallas is one such building. With over 1 million square feet of floor space, it is the world's largest singular column free exhibit hall, and is an excellent location to host any type of conference, exhibition or summit.
Business, however, is not all that Dallas is famous for. The Art District, in downtown Dallas is home to several notable art venues including the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Centre, The Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art and the Nasher Sculpture Centre. As far as music goes, Deep Ellum is one historic music site that is certainly worth a visit. Arguably the prime jazz and blues hotspot in the south during the 1920s and 1930s, today this arts and entertainment district is home to many of the city's most popular live music venues, and is a great place to begin experiencing Dallas' nightlife.
Of course, Dallas would not be Dallas without its food. Famous for its barbecue, Authentic Mexican, and hybrid Tex-Mex cuisine, the city features a plethora of different flavours. Home to several nationally ranked steak and chop houses, the city loves to eat out. In fact, it is interesting to note that the city has more restaurants per capita than even New York City.
While Dallas is a great city for business, it is also an excellent location for art and music. So, even if you're in town on work, you will probably want to swing by Deep Ellum, and grab some bbq on the way. After all, this is the south, where good music and great food go hand in hand with big business.
