With a population of over three million, Chicago is the third largest city in the US, and the largest in the Midwest. Situated next to lake Michigan, the city was incorporated in 1837, and is today a major business, financial and transportation hub.
Home of a team from every major league sport, the city is notorious for its fanatic support of the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, and White Sox.
While visiting Chicago, one area which tourists will definitely want to have a look at is the waterfront. With an avid nightlife, the populous lakefront area is a hub of activity, and certainly not something you'd want to miss while staying in the city. Although walking around will be interesting, don't forget to stop for a Chicago-style hot dog, or a deep-dish pizza - your visit to the city will not be the same without tasting at least one of these fine foods.
A city that takes its theatre very seriously, Chicago is the birthplace of improvisational comedy, and is home to two renowned comedy companies - The Second City and I.O. Of course, there are many other theatres that you may like to experience. From the Strawdog Theatre Company near Lakeview, to the downtown theatre houses like the Chicago Theatre, the city features a wide variety of dramas and musicals, and you are sure to find something you like if you look closely.
If you're more in to the traditional performing arts, the Lyric Opera of Chicago performs at the Civic Opera House, the second-largest opera house in North America, and the Joffrey Ballet is certainly worth experiencing as well.
