Boston, MA
Founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England, Boston Massachusetts is one of America's most historic cities. Home to several major events of the American Revolution, such as the Boston Tea Party, the city is now home to 4.4 million people. Currently, Boston is one of the foremost research and development hubs in the United States, including prestigious schools such as Harvard and MIT, and the area thus features a large student population.
As far as culture goes, Boston has plenty of it. From the Boston Opera House to the Museum of Fine Arts, the city is rich in aesthetics, and will have a lot to offer for the culture traveler. Home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Ballet, and the Boston Early Music Festival, the city boasts a wide and varied range of rich entertainment that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning critic. Connoisseurs in particular will enjoy the Museum of Fine Arts, and would do well to visit the smaller museums associated with universities such as Harvard University and MIT. Many art galleries are also located on Newbury Street, and in the Fort Point Channel area.
Since much of the city's identity is built around the part it played in early American history, a lot of Boston's culture surrounds the events of the American Revolution. Many historical sites can be found in the Boston National Historical Park, and along the Freedom Trail. From the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, to the Trinity Church and the First Church of Christ, the city is also rich in religious heritage. Sports fans on the other hand will be interested in Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, and TD Banknorth Garden, home of the Bruins and Celtics.
Whether you're in town for a conference, or just here to enjoy the sights and sounds of one of America's most historic communities, rest assured that the city has something in store for you. The very heart of New England, and an integral part of its culture and history, Boston is a great stop for any kind of traveller.
