Spain's second largest city, Barcelona is a principal Mediterranean port, and therefore an important commercial location. The urban parks cover roughly 10% of the city area, giving nature lovers plenty of space to see the city just the way they want to. Montjuïc, the destination's largest park, is spread out over 203 hectares on its namesake mountain, and is a great spot to visit for those who want to get away from the city centre for a while.
As a city of its age should, Barcelona also boasts of many cultural venues, including the Gran Theatre del Liceu opera theatre, The National Museum of Art of Catalonia, and architect Antoni Gaudí's masterpiece, the Roman Catholic church of the Sagrada Família, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been under construction since 1882, and is scheduled to be completed only by 2026.
